Announcing CMD for drilling stacks of CFRP/Metal (July 17, 2008)
Precorp Inc. is committed to designing and manufacturing precision cutting tools and providing tooling solutions for the ever changing applications of our customers. Precorp Inc.’s latest innovation is the Composite Metal Drill (CMD), specifically designed for hand drilling of composite metallic stacks. The CMD has been successfully utilized in stacks containing Aerospace CFRP and metals including Aluminum, Titanium and Stainless Steel.
The CMD comes in both piloted and unpiloted designs for predrilled and non-predrilled applications. The point design allows the drill to center itself quickly and not wander on the surface of the part. Once the drill engages in the cut minimal force is required by the operator to finish the hole. When used with a handheld guide bushing the CMD produces holes with minimal size difference between the materials in stack.
The new CMD demonstrates Precorp’s commitment to solving the challenges our customers face. We can conduct in house testing for specific applications with our current tooling or have our tool designers work on products for new applications. Please contact one of our facilities to test the CMD for drilling stacks of CFRP/Metal or for any other machining challenges you face.
