Automotive components require a high number of engineered round tools. With a full capability of PCD, Solid Carbide and Coated Carbide round tools, Precorp has the special round tools associated with any typical automotive component. Having worked with transmissions, valve bodies, pump covers, engine heads, engine blocks, brake components and other aluminum automotive components, our engineers have the capability to take a customer’s part design and develop it into a process. Combining Precorps knowledge of diecast aluminum machining with their unique tool manufacturing capability allows tool concepts to be achieved that traditionally are impossible.
PCD veined straight flute drills are an excellent example of a tool concept that is unique to Precorp. This tool allows for one shot drilling and hole accuracy that is typically only achieved through a two step process. This tool partnered with precision reamers and integral shank tooling allows for the best engineered cutting solutions for diecast aluminum machining. In addition, Precorp offers full reconditioning and regrind services of these special round tools for die cast machining.

THE POLYCRYSTALLINE DIAMOND (PCD) PROCESSPRECORP’s PCD process is the method for making unique shaped diamond edges which enables the creation of innovative diamond tooling solutions for common and special problems.
The carbide blank is inserted into one of Precorp’s high pressure, high temperature presses and subjected to 2,700º F and 876,000 psi. In this process the diamond powder is compressed and the diamond crystals are bonded to each other and to the carbide blank.
The PCD nib is then brazed to a solid carbide shank. The braze is located sufficiently away from the tip of the tool to avoid any potential thermal damage. This allows the use of a high temperature high strength braze joint between the nib and the carbide shank.
